Why Lebanese Citizens Should not Interact with Nas Daily
Last Month, Nusseir Yassin, who is known as Nas Daily published a series of videos on various topics in Lebanon. The videos are problematic because they are illegal and here’s why.
Yassin is a Palestinian who holds Israeli citizenship. While many Palestinian are forced to live with this reality. Yassin seems to be happy with the occupation and typically promotes and normalizes Israel through his platform on social media. He also identifies as a Palestinian-Israeli.
In one of his videos, Nas Daily stated how he thinks that “Israel should exist” and how the fight and resistance of Palestinian against Israeli colonial violence is “a stupid argument”.
Nas Daily’s recent videos included interviews with multiple Lebanese citizens, one of the most significant ones was Sally Hafiz, the infamous girl that “robbed” a bank and took her deposit which was in Dollars. This is very problematic
First of all, Lebanon and the colonial entity of Israel are in a state of war and Israel is an enemy state. This is illustrated in the Lebanese legislation which strictly rejects recognizing Israel as a state in the first place.
In the 1943 Lebanese criminal code, article 273 to be specific, “condemns any Lebanese that has fought alongside the enemy’s forces and is to be sentenced to death.” Additionally, according to Articles 274 and 275 any Lebanese that aids the enemy (Israel) with intelligence or contacts them in any way leads to a lifetime hard labour sentence. If the actions of the accused led to the victory of the enemy, the sentence would be developed to the death penalty.
Another law — the Anti-Israel Boycott Law — was passed on June 23, 1955, by the Lebanese parliament. The aim of the law was to boycott and cut all relations with the Zionist colony. The Law consisted of 13 articles; Article 1 bans entering into any physical or moral settlement with any organization or individual who holds an Israeli nationality or resides on the Israeli territories regardless of the subject matter of the agreement
Article 2 of the boycott law prohibits the direct or indirect import of goods from the Zionist entity. As to article 3, it “targets the monitoring of imports,” meaning that no matter how great the quantity, each importer must present a document stating the place of origin of the goods and assuring that they do not consist of any Israeli materials in the instances defined by the council of ministers.
Moreover, Article 7 of the law explains the penalty for violation. Accordingly, the penalty for breaching articles 1 and 2 are three to ten years of hard labour, as well as, a fine and the probability of being banned from working or acquiring a job. However, violating articles 3 and 4 can lead to a 3 months to 3 years sentence or the payment of a fine or both. On the other hand, article 8 states that the defendant could be pardoned to penalties in case they assist the authorities in arresting “any accomplices in the crime on condition that their help results in uncovering this crime.”
Nevertheless, all this impressive legislation seems to have been loosened up and ignored as Nas Daily’s Partner Alyne Tamir, who also has a large platform on social media and is openly Israeli, entered Lebanon on her American passport in 2021.
This is not the only worrying instance. Nas Daily is also recruiting people in Lebanon to create content for him. I personally came across an ad for recruitment on Linked In. It also how Yassin was able to create videos in Lebanon without even being in the country.
In 2020, BDS movement called for the boycott of Nas Daily.
And recently, The Boycott Campaign, which is based in Lebanon, posted on their social media to boycott the latter and retain from applying to any job posted by Nas Daily Studios.
The Lebanese authorities’ lack of action is a catastrophe. This is a call for the Lebanese authorities to take into account, anyone linked with or working with Nas Daily who is a Palestinian citizen of Israel and a proud one who does not wish for Israel to cease to exist. The facts are clear and one Google search proves all my accusations. The law needs to be implemented.
